Built by Lars Tangen a ship's carpenter on a 5-masted schooner that brought ice from Norway to South America. The story is Lars jumped ship in 1930 somewhere near New Jersey where he had a brother. He also had a sister in Portland, OR and alternated staying with the siblings. A couple from Portland found the pond yacht in a basement cupboard of a house they bought in 1954. By this time the paint was badly oxidized and peeling and the sails were rotted through. At this time it had heavy gauge wire shaped to match the arch of the swinging booms of the sails so you could tie them off at the desired position. The original rudder was replaced when deemed too small for maneuvering in close quarters. The homeowners who found the model restored it's paint, added a bigger rudder, replaced the sails with unbleached muslin cloth and motorized the vessel with battery power. Included is an original letter from the previous owner to the last known owner before it arrived at Longship Marine details all this and the original tiller.
